Help! - Safari stretches div with background repeat

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated...

Safari stretches the menu div across the screen while the other major
browsers leave the menu div at the correct set width. I just used a small repeating segment as a menu background.

I tried "overflow:hidden" to stop the div from stretching but it didn't seem to work.
