crabel writes "In Java 1.6.0_21, the company field was changed from 'Sun Microsystems, Inc' to 'Oracle.' Apparently not the best idea, because some applications depend on that field to identify the virtual machine. All Eclipse versions since 3.3 (released 2007) until and including the recent Helios release (2010) have been reported to crash with an OutOfMemoryError due to this change. This is particularly funny since the update is deployed through automatic update and suddenly applications cease to work."pa href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fit.slashdot.org%2Fstory% 2F10%2F07%2F28%2F2121259%2FOracles-Java-Company-Change-Breaks-Eclipse" target="_blank" title="Share on Facebook"img src="http://a.fsdn.com/sd/facebook_icon_large.png"/a a href="http://twitter.com/home?status=Oracle's+Java+Company+Change+Breaks+Ec lipse%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FdvJFiL" target="_blank" title="Share on Twitter"img src="http://a.fsdn.com/sd/twitter_icon_large.png"/a/ppa href="http://it.slashdot.org/story/10/07/28/2121259/Oracles-Java-Company-Change-Breaks-Eclipse?from=rss"Read more of this story/a at Slashdot./ppa href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/vJaOVMoFtOMPc9yhSUrG0gnkT2o/0/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/vJaOVMoFtOMPc9yhSUrG0gnkT2o/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/abr/a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/vJaOVMoFtOMPc9yhSUrG0gnkT2o/1/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/vJaOVMoFtOMPc9yhSUrG0gnkT2o/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/a/pimg src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Slashdot/slashdotDevelopers/~4/8oF4_23KxDM" height="1" width="1"/
