An anonymous reader writes "With its new Caffeine search indexing system, Google has moved away from its MapReduce distributed number crunching platform in favor of a setup that mirrors database programming. The index is stored in Google's BigTable distributed database, and Caffeine allows for incremental changes to the database itself. The system also uses an update to the Google File System codenamed 'Colossus.'"http://a.fsdn.com/sd/facebook_icon_large.png (http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fdevelopers.slashdot.org% 2Fstory%2F10%2F09%2F12%2F0155259%2FGoogle-Caffeine-Drops-MapReduce-Adds-Colossus) http://a.fsdn.com/sd/twitter_icon_large.png (http://twitter.com/home?status=Google+Caffeine+Drops+MapReduce%2C+Add s+%22Colossus%22%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FaJGkCm)
