Simpler "Hello World" Demonstrated In C

An anonymous reader writes "Wondering where all that bloat comes from, causing even the classic 'Hello world' to weigh in at 11 KB? An MIT programmer decided to make a Linux C program so simple, she could explain every byte of the assembly. She found that gcc was including libc even when you don't ask for it. The blog shows how to compile a much simpler 'Hello world,' using no libraries at all. This takes me back to the days of programming bare-metal on DOS!"pa href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fdevelopers.slashdot.org% 2Fstory%2F10%2F03%2F16%2F2216258%2FSimpler-Hello-World-Demonstrated-In-C" target="_blank" title="Share on Facebook"img src="http://a.fsdn.com/sd/facebook_icon_large.png"/a a href="http://twitter.com/home?status=Simpler+%22Hello+World%22+Demonstrated +In+C%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FcJTyZn" target="_blank" title="Share on Twitter"img src="http://a.fsdn.com/sd/twitter_icon_large.png"/a/ppa href="http://developers.slashdot.org/story/10/03/16/2216258/Simpler-Hello-World-Demonstrated-In-C?from=rss"Read more of this story/a at Slashdot./ppa href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/WN8XfC5_-HSqmVIH1TL_rYOEzzI/0/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/WN8XfC5_-HSqmVIH1TL_rYOEzzI/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/abr/a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/WN8XfC5_-HSqmVIH1TL_rYOEzzI/1/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/WN8XfC5_-HSqmVIH1TL_rYOEzzI/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/a/pimg src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Slashdot/slashdotDevelopers/~4/0BqHlxmfoNk" height="1" width="1"/
