Default Atom Processors Set New Record For Power-Efficient Sorting

schliz writes "German researchers have set a new record for energy efficient data sorting with a system based on netbook processors and Solid State Disks SSD. The system, dubbed EcoSort, more than tripled the power efficiency of former record holders, leading one of its developers to claim: 'In the long run, many small, power-efficient and cooperating systems are going to replace the so far used, heavy weighted ones.' Records were defined by 'Sort Benchmark', which was created by missing Microsoft scientist Jim Gray and was now managed by representatives of companies like Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft."pa href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fhardware.slashdot.org%2F story%2F10%2F03%2F29%2F0251207%2FAtom-Processors-Set-New-Record-For-Power-Efficient-Sorting" target="_blank" title="Share on Facebook"img src="http://a.fsdn.com/sd/facebook_icon_large.png"/a a href="http://twitter.com/home?status=Atom+Processors+Set+New+Record+For++Po wer-Efficient+Sorting%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2F9LmdbV" target="_blank" title="Share on Twitter"img src="http://a.fsdn.com/sd/twitter_icon_large.png"/a/ppa href="http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/10/03/29/0251207/Atom-Processors-Set-New-Record-For-Power-Efficient-Sorting?from=rss"Read more of this story/a at Slashdot./p pa href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/AvuYpdgR6RwPJgUZSfBPPnOZJLo/0/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/AvuYpdgR6RwPJgUZSfBPPnOZJLo/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/abr/ a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/AvuYpdgR6RwPJgUZSfBPPnOZJLo/1/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/AvuYpdgR6RwPJgUZSfBPPnOZJLo/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/a/pimg src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Slashdot/slashdotDevelopers/~4/uiu2cufU_vc" height="1" width="1"/
