Browser support

The table below shows the browsers and operating systems which are known to be supported, and to what extent. Click the screenshot icons in the final column for a picture of the navigation in each browser.

Other browsers will get plain, functional content - a fully expanded list of links. This includes any browser-based screenreader using Opera, Mozilla, Safari, Konqueror or Windows Internet Explorer *1

Notes

  1. If you use dynamically-generated menus then unsupported or non-javascript browsers will only see the main navigation list; if you use hard-coded menus they'll get the nested levels as well. Browser-based screenreaders are not affected by this - they can access the entire structure whether or not scripting is enabled. For more about the menu's behavior in this environment, please see Notes about browser-based screenreaders.
  2. In browsers which don't support full keyboard navigation, you can still navigate the main bar using Tab and Shift-Tab, or whatever keystrokes you would normally use.
  3. In Internet Explorer 5.0 or 5.1 for Mac OS9 or earlier, the main bar is always visible but a horizontal navbar has no menus, because of browser bugs for which there was no practical workaround. Later versions have full support.
  4. In Mozilla Gecko browsers 1.2 or earlier, the main bar is always visible but a relatively-positioned navbar has no menus, because of browser bugs for which there was no practical workaround. Later versions have full support.
  5. If you're using RTL or bi-directional text, please note the additional browser limitations that apply.
